Bowling Green Man Arrested in Hit-and-Run With Serious Injuries

On behalf of Mike Breen, Attorney at Law, P.S.C. posted in car accidents on Tuesday, May 2, 2017.

A 21-year-old Bowling Green resident has been charged with both assault and hit-and-run involving serious injuries for his alleged role in striking and severely maiming two pedestrians on Jan. 29, 2017. Although he was initially arrested on Feb. 1, 2017, by Bowling Green police officers, he wasn’t arraigned until the second week in April on the aforementioned charges.

The incident in question occurred around 3 a.m., at the intersection of High Street and 15th Avenue in Bowling Green. The defendant’s female victim suffered a broken leg. His male victim was much more critically injured. Representatives of the Collision Reconstruction Team were called in to investigate the crash.

In looking at both the man’s injuries and the crash scene, it is thought that the man landed on top of the vehicle after being struck by the defendant’s car. They were also able to determine he most likely rode atop of the car for a short while before rolling onto the ground where he was ultimately found by police.

Additionally, crash scene investigators discovered a grille that belonged to a 2006-2012 Chevy Impala in the area. An alert was sent out to other area police departments letting them know to lookout for a Chevy Impala that not only had front-end damage, but was missing its grille. An officer with the police department at Western Kentucky University located a car fitting that description in the parking lot of the E.A. Diddle Arena on Feb. 1.

It’s then that the car’s ownership was confirmed and its owner was contacted by police investigators. According to their arrest report, the defendant admitted to driving the vehicle at the time the two pedestrians were struck. It’s alleged he stated that he fled the crash scene out of sheer panic.

The defendant is currently being held at the jail in Warren County on a $75,000 bond. No update has been made as to the victims’ conditions. It’s unclear as to whether any suspected drug or alcohol use is believed to have contributed to the man’s role in causing the accident.
